EPICLON® is DIC’s registered trademark for epoxy resins and curing agents.
DIC started the production of epoxy resins in 1971. Today we are one of the leading epoxy resins manufacturers in Japan. Thanks to our advanced production technology DIC epoxy resins have become successful all over the world for a wide variety of applications. Today our functional polymers and especially our epoxy resins are one of the core businesses in the DIC group and this business is being strengthened by continuous expansion.
History of DIC Epoxy Resins:
1971 Start of Epiclon production in Chiba (Japan)
1985 Start of the 2nd plant; production of epoxy resins for electronic und electrical applications
1994 3rd plant; production of brominated epoxies
1989 Joint Venture with Mitsui Chemical and Asahi Denka Kogyo; production of BPA liquid epoxy resins
1998 Foundation of JV-company Wuxi DIC EPOXY in Wuxi (China)
1999 Foundation of 100 % subsidiary DEM in Johor (Malaysia)
2004 Start of production at EPISPOL - JV plant with Spolchemie in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic).
2007 Start of production at EPISPOL 2
PRODUCT LINE of EPICLON®
DIC has a full product line of epoxies from conventional types to specialties.
Our Epiclon resins are well known for excellent product quality in particular high purity and low chlorine content. These features make them especially recommendable in high performance fields like E&E, composites, adhesives, and many other applications.
*BPA type / liquid epoxy resins
are mainly used for standard applications in coating, electronic and adhesive field as well as reactive intermediates. DIC offers various grades of unmodified and modified liquid BPA resins. Distilled Type
*BPA type / solid epoxy resins
are mainly used for coating applications, esp. in the field of can, coil and powder coatings. DIC offers a variety of products from medium to high molecular weight. These products are also available as solution types.
*BPF type epoxy resins
feature low viscosity for better processability in various applications. Distilled Type
*Reactive diluents
provide very low viscosity. They are mainly used in combination with other epoxy resins in order to reduce the viscosity without losing the reactivity.
*Brominated resins
provide good flame retardency as they are based on Tetra-Bromo Bisphenol A. DIC offers low brominated types as well as high brominated types. These are especially used for E&E applications. 152 153 1121 N80M
*Novolac epoxies
DIC is one of the leading manufacturers of novolac epoxy resins. Due to their excellent high heat resistance these products are used for various high performance applications in E&E, coating, composite and adhesive field.
DIC offers following basic types:
Epoxy Phenol Novolac N 700 Series
Epoxy Cresol Novolac N 600 Series
Modified Novolac N 865 N 890
*High Performance Types
Due to our advanced synthesis technology DIC offers various types with high performance features like low moisture absorption, high heat resistance, inherent flame retardency, etc. HP4032 HP4032D HP7200 Series HP4700 HP4770 EXA4850 1000 EXA4850 150 HP820
*Other epoxy resins
DIC offers many further epoxy resins like “High Flexibility Types”, “Polyfunctional Types”, “High Molecular Weight Types”, “Epoxy Polyol Types”
APPLICATIONS of EPICLON®
DIC epoxy resins have historically a strong focus on E&E applications, which is reflected by our strong position in this field. But the required properties in this concern like heat resistance, low moisture absorption, etc. are growing requirements in many other fields as well. Making use of this situation DIC has grown its epoxy resins business into all main application fields as listed below. And this trend is still continuing esp. for high performance applications.
- Paints and Coatings (powder coatings, can & coil coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, marine paints, …)
- Civil engineering, flooring
- Composite applications
- E&E applications (printed circuit boards, semiconductor encapsulation, solder resist inks, insulation materials, etc.)
- Adhesives
- Others
